Michael (Mike) Murphy, Ed. D.

Dr. Mike Murphy is Director of Education and Professional Learning for
the Salesmanship Club Youth and Family Centers. In this capacity, Dr.
Murphy oversees and provides leadership for two of SCYFC programs, J.
Erik Jonsson Community School and the Institute for Excellence in Urban
Education. Previously, Dr. Murphy was the executive director of the Principal
Assessment and Action Center, a joint collaborative among the Region 10
Educational Service Center, the Dallas Independent School District, and
the Dallas Institute for Urban Leadership. For eight years, Dr. Murphy
has served as an executive lecturer and adjunct instructor for the University
of North Texas, teaching graduate-level courses in instructional leadership
and effective curriculum and instruction. From 1999-2003, Dr. Murphy was
director of programs for the National Staff Development Council, with
supervisory responsibility for designing and managing the NSDC’s
annual conference and the Academy for Staff Developers. From 1993-1999,
Dr. Murphy was the assistant superintendent for curriculum, planning,
and research for the Southlake Carroll Independent School District and,
in 1997, also served as the district’s interim superintendent. Before
that, Dr. Murphy was a teacher and principal in the Richardson Independent
School District. Dr. Murphy has lectured and facilitated strategic planning
and professional development seminars in 40 states of the United States.
He has published numerous articles for national journals and is a contributing
author for four educational books.

Paige Conley, M. Ed.

Paige Conley is the Education Development Coordinator for the Institute
of Excellence in Urban Education. Currently, she is sharing best practices
from the Salesmanship Club’s laboratory school and working collaboratively
with principals and teachers from area public schools. As principal of
the J. Erik Jonsson Community School for ten years, she directed the development
of the school’s program which was founded to develop and provide
an excellent learning opportunity for urban children and their families,
ages three to sixth grade – and to share the practices that ensured
student success. She also served as curriculum and instruction coordinator
at JEJCS before becoming principal. Paige earned a Master’s in Mid-Management/Administration
from TWU and a Bachelor’s in Elementary Ed. with a specialization
in reading from UT.

Karen Norris, M. Ed.

Karen S. Norris received her Bachelors degree in Education and Psychology
from the University of Dallas and completed her Masters in Reading at
the University of North Texas where she is currently pursuing her doctorate
in Curriculum Development and Instruction. Karen has had the opportunity
to work with many different grade levels. She started her teaching career
as an ESL and Bilingual teacher with the Richardson Independent School
District, and then taught at J. Erik Jonsson Community School. In her
current position as the Professional Learning Coordinator for the Institute
of Excellence In Urban Education, she organizes and leads professional
development experiences. This includes training, coaching, consultation,
and collaboration with J. Erik Jonsson Community School, the Research
& Evaluation team, collaborating educators, and partner schools.

Holly R. Torres

Holly R. Torres is a Planning and Development Specialist for the Institute
of Excellence in Urban Education. She began her career at SCYFC in 1999
as a research scientist for the research and evaluation team. Currently,
she designs systems for managing and evaluating IEUE initiatives, manages
relationships with partner schools, and coordinates field experience and
pre-service observations by partnering colleges and universities. Holly
earned her Bachelors degree in Psychology from the University of Texas
at Dallas in 1998 and is currently pursuing her MBA in Organizational
Behavior.
